you need an Action Replay to play it properly (or get fully working USA/PAL version)

Does Action Replay have a freeloader type device then? I thought it was just cheats...
      EDIT - Just found this...

Launch and play imported GameCube™ games from any region • No need to modify your console – keeps your warranty intact • Add loads of new titles to your GameCube™ collection, including games that may never be released in your region • Play US and Japanese games on a PAL GameCube™ • Play PAL games on a US or Japanese GameCube™ • Fast and easy to use • Compatible with the Panasonic Q • Not 100% compatible with the Japanese version of F-Zero GX and Paper Mario 2

Action Replay's multi-region code is basically the same as Freeloader's (Freeloader being a stripped-down AR in the first place). The reason for recommending AR instead is that there are some POKEs (or whatever it is that you Spectrum-deprived youngsters call them these days) that do a partial attempt at patching the text problem.

As I mentioned elsewhere, our Asda seems to have had a sudden influx of a crate full of the game, if you're prepared to have a PAL copy - I'm fairly sure it's got a 60Hz mode from memory.
