help with my new monitor and the 360

Right I finially got a new (well 2nd hand for £30) 19" Sony Triniton E220 CRT monitor to run my 360 off after getting sick of HD on a 15" crap monitor.

Its a really nice monitor but im having some weird colour problems, in that it appears a little bright and i seem unable to get the settings right.

My problem seems to be with the black, its more of a reddish grey with all the settings turned down. Its difficult to describe but its like the brightness is turned up but it isnt lol

The instuctions manual can be found here -> http://www.sony-cp.com/manuals/crt/e_essential/e230.pdf

it seems to have a LOT more options for all colour settings than any monitor ive used before, and the 360 looks great on all moniors ive tried but this one- unfortunetly im really poor at the moment due to a new car, so im stuck with this display so if anybody has any experiance with this actual model, or could have a look at the manual see where i might be going wrong, please give me any suggestions you may have and ill try them out.

once again thanks for any help!

It sounds like it might be set to warm colour temperature (9300K or something). Check for a colour temperature setting, you should have an option of warm, neutral or cold, and set it to neutral (6500K or something?).

Also I've found that the best settings for my monitor and TV tend to be about 90% on the contrast, then put the brightness to 100% and work your way downwards until the blacks look right. Others have said that they find about 50% contrast works best, so play around with it. Go at it in a formulaic manner. Set contrast up high first and gradually go downwards with brightness. If that doesn't work, bring contrast down by 10% and try again with the brightness, and continue until it looks right.

thanks for that, I do have it set at the highest temperature at the moment, but i have systematically played with the settings on all levels and it doesnt seem to ever have a true black colour- I take it there is no set standard and all monitors are different with their settings.

Any idea if its because its a triniton that the problem exists?

edit, sorry better say this, there are 4 different colour modes, present, variable, expert and srgb.

im currently using expert, as this was the only one that would alow me to adjust the picture attributes, manually (ie rgb brightness seperately and the same for contrast) when i set it to present mode it only gives me the 3 teperature options and all are too bright, but then I cant adjust the brightness on any to look anything near right, as there is only 1 mater brightness control for that option.
