Using Official remote with modded Xbox

    Its a R2 remote.

Will it lock the machine to R2 meaning no multi-region?

Anyone use one with their modded xbox?

yes for the built in DVD player, but you need a dongle to use that anyway.

no for dvd region-x, which doesn't need the dongle to work.

afaik the dongle sets the dvd region in the xbox eeprom, and the built in player verifies that and the dongle before playing movies. You can probably reset the eeprom setting with config magic.

So, if you have an XB with Region-X on it. Can you still use the remote, with no change of f00king up the console?

DVDX v1 uses the remote and dongle, but makes it region free, v2 uses the pad instead of he remote.

Does V2 not recognise the remote at all then?

Neither of them will recognise the remote and dongle.

Your mod chip will most likely reset the region lock so providing you have 2 dongles (or more) set to a particular region you can switch between them depending on what region dvd you wanna play.

OK let's get the facts straight

dvdx v1: patches the microsoft dashboard xboxdash.xbe to enable multiregion support when using the microsoft dvd player software with the remote and dongle

dvdx v2: a totally separate non-microsoft player which is multiregion and uses the gamepad for the controls, not the remote

If you want to use the remote+dongle with multiregion support using the microsoft dvd player, you need to patch your dashboard using dvdx v1. However this will only work with a basic 4034 dashboard (check system info under "D:". If you have a newer dashboard version and/or Evox it's more complicated to setup.

Thanks to Atarian's post here, I've set mine up so that when I put in a movie in evox it will automatically load up the patched MS dvd player so I can play multiregion movies with the remote+dongle (I've got the latest MS dashboard version with evox and a Live switch). Let me know if you need help setting this up.
