The latest is that they have the story finished, but they haven't started developing the game yet. Here is the quote from July, 2003 issue of EGM. This is what he says in relation to Shenmue III,

"The story is already completed. The problem is that we have not decided whether or not to move forward with designing the game yet. If there's a demand for it we'd love to make it, but it's undecided".

-Famed Sega Designer Yu Suzuki (Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing) on the possibility of Shenmue III.

I think this is the one game, that I need to be made.

Me too. But it's not going to happen as development wouldn't be a cost effective move for Sega at this time, especially after two failed merger talks, and the fact they're currently in the process of scaling back development staff.

Shenmue as of now seems to be dead. What a tragedy.

I would genuinly be upset if we dont get Shenmue 3. Shenmue is 1 of only 2 games i simply had to finnish, no matter what.

I too crave Shenmue III. A beautiful game series.

I hope Sega can find a cheapish way of producing it. Presumably most of the r&d costs have already been spent on the first two games, unless they feel the need to radically update the graphics engine.

Personally I'd like the third game to retain the look and feel of the first two, if it ever comes out.

I think in order for us to keep relating to the story, it would have to look very similar. Thats not to say it's at the expense of quality though, as shenmue has always been ahead of it's time with it's visuals.
