amp + speakers through consoles etc.

right, i'm shopping for audio gear but i just need to run through everything in my head first so it makes sense.

assuming i get console cabling with audio connections i can just whack these in a 2 channel amp and enjoy a thumping sound experience right? yeah!

see i cannot be arsed hooking up a 5.1 setup as i'll want to spend(waste?) money on a reasonably decent system which i blatantly can't afford... so i'm going for a nice quality 2.1 kit as it'll be used loads for music too.

if i end up getting a sub at a later date do most amps have a specific socket for these? ones i've looked at don't seem to.

    cheers!

Most stereo amps don't have a sub out. What some subs can do is act as a low-pass filter, where the speaker cables go from amp>sub>speaker.

Have you got a rough idea of budget? It's suprising what you can get for fairly little these days. If you feel that you will want 5.1 (or 6.1/7.1) at some point in the future I would consider going the whole hog now to save having to try and upgrade kit.

got about ?4-500 to spend, do watch films a fair amount but it's mainly for gaming and music... i'd rather spend the cash i'd save on a surround setup and put it into the speakers/amp. that and it just seems less messy as my living room arrangement isn't ideal for rear speakers (well one of them at least).

Apparently this is quite good, Has optical, THX approved - more of a gaming/dvd set up though. Probably not what you were after, but it's cheap (?190 Amazon) & is 500w!!!
Should be getting one in the next month.

yeah i've seen a fair few deals like those but as i said, it'll be used for music too, and previous 'testing' has made me realise there's few satellite speakers that'll kick out music well. hence a 2.1 setup but slightly nicer quality. totally decided now, i'd definately prefer to have an awesome ass kicking stereo setup than a musically challenged (at my budget anyway) 5.1 kit.

i still love you though nige.

            Rotel integrated amp RA1062 (http://europe.rotel.com/products/specs/ra1062.htm)

matched with B+W DM602 bookself speakers.

This is the set-up I am thinking about

              right, problem solved...

              acquired:

              and

amp needs about 3 days to run in, and the speakers about 10 hours... already sounding most impressive though considering the cost! minttttttttttttt, my house is the one you can hear from down the street yeah?
