N00b Needing NTSC PS2 Import Advice!

Hi everyone, Im new to the forums today as I am very keen on the importing market. Mainly due to the fact that most decent games never make it to UK shores....alot of them being RPG's, my favourite genre.

So I will be purchasing a Slimline NTSC PS2 and I will be getting a new 60 HZ TV when I get paid next week. I have bought a few things in preparation after reading the FAQ and I would like to know if I have everything I need:

    Blaze RGB Lead
Step Down Converter - 100 Watts

    Do I have everything?

Ive read on some topics about the power supply, from my understanding all I need to do is use my UK Slimline PS2 Plug Lead and connect it to the NTSC Power Adaptor and it should work OK. Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is all totally new to me.

    Marc

Yes, you only need some sort of travel plug to fit the stuff into the socket in the wall.

edit: or as you said with the Uk ps2 power lead. No need for stepdown as the AC-adapter that comes with the (US) slimline PS2 does that internally. I've used the power cable on my (thickline) PS2 and just plugged it into the (US) AC-adapter, works like a charm.

      You need some US games

Welcome to NTSC-uk (and proper speed games and no black borders!)

Plug the stepdown into your UK wall socket and plug the PS2 power lead into the stepdown. The stepdown should have a UK plug (to put in the wall) and a US socket in the stepdown itself. Not sure why you would need travel plugs or a UK Ps2 lead.

      Sorted

        Brilliant! Thanks for your help!

So am I correct in saying that I just use my UK PS2 Plug Lead with the US External Adapter?

If you're getting a new tv, why not get one that accepts component cables and get one of them too ?

Get over to Videogamesplus.ca (should be an affiliate link somewhere on the page I think). They're fast, friendly and marks the games down so you don't get stung with custom fees/vat/whatever afterwards.

I can also recommend the Katamari Damacy-games, both under ?20 from VGP, for happy happy joyous time get!

Lost of TVs support 60Hz. But if I were you I would find the TV you are interested in, head over to www.pricerunner.co.uk and look for it there, and take a look at the details they give. They list whether a TV is NTSC compatible ("NTSC playback", under "Picture").

                          For example: http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/sound-a...391678/details
But I'm not recommending that as such, since I haven't experienced it myself. It just happens to be ?100!

Thanks, but I think I read in the FAQ that I need a TV that supports 3.58 NTSC or something to that effect and it says quite alot of TV's that say 'NTSC supported' only use 4.43. Do all modern TV's have this then?

With the RGB cable, you don't have to worry about any of that, just that the TV supports 60Hz (as RGB isn't colour frequency coded like PAL and NTSC are).
