I'm just saying, do you notice theres an increase in spyware threads and people telling other people how to reinstall etc, format, these words only exist in the win32 world

shyeet even I have to go down to my folks to do their pc again, as it rots itself to death after time, nope no viruses etc. .just winrot.

I just refuse to use an OS where the same company that makes it releases virus and spyware tools, why dont they fix the OS instead? I dont want extra tools to fix my pc or scan it to keep it up to date, I dont want to restart my computer after every update, I dont want a virus from looking at a wmf file, I dont want to run a virus checker at .. all .. actually.

I dont want to defrag every month to 'keep it fresh' every other decent OS in the world you dont need to. how strange.

Because Microsoft realise that Mac OS is pretty damn nice looking, and are aware that the general public releases this.

Yep. That's because Windows XP has a huge user base. A survey was done a while ago into the stability of OS X by a large security expert firm, and the results were surprising - they basically concluded by saying that OS X (or to be fair, the version that was available in 2004) wasn't really as secure as people tend to think it is and most of its usability comes from the low user base. < http://www.computerweekly.com/Articl...isingfinds.htm >

I'm not saying Windows is perfect - I'm just saying that with all its problems, no other OS has been able to replace it for me.

I've had XP installed since 2003, still going fine.

I'm no MS/Windows fanboy, but I've never experienced this "Winrot" myself, though I am constantly being phoned by my friends and family cos their Windows-based computer has stopped working correctly. Generally I find that their computer is going haywire because:

a) they've installed some dodgy program that a bloke from their work gave them a copy of ("he said it was brilliant, it lets you copy DVDs 'n' stuff").
b) they've installed a dozen "fun" themes that they saw a link to on a website, so now their computer goes "kapow!" every time they press a key or mouse button.
c) they've installed several free broadband trial CDs cos they got them in the Radio Times every week, and never thought to uninstall the previous one.
d) they've maxxed out their hard disk with downloaded MP3s and movies.

I admit Windows ain't a model of total security, but the weakest point in any computer system, is still, in my opinion, the user.

Windows has the majority of the market share, so has a thousand times more of this kind of crap available. Add to that, the fact that most home users are fairly clueless about good computer housekeeping, and it's a recipe for disaster.

I've not had a lot of experience of other OS's, but I'd guess that an idiot with MacOS or whatever could probably do an equally good job of screwing it up, if their was a similar abundance of badly-written or malicious crap out there targetted towards that OS.
