Connecting my laptop to a Wireless Network

I can't make my laptop find the wireless network I know it should find (because my PDA can).

I 'Enable' the wireless in network connections and the light shows the mast lit up but then it just never shows any available networks. Is there a way to search for networks that I'm missing?

It is a work laptop though, is it possible they have disabled the wireless another way? Should I be able to get round this?

Any help appreciated, I'm not the most PC savvy person though.

Do you know if the wireless network is 802.11b, g or mix (b+g)?

It's possible the network is set to g, the PDA is compatible but the laptop may not be if it's 11b only.

Will have to check the actual network later on the pda as it's not one here at work.

At work though the PDA gets about 4 networks and asks if I want to connect to them, though I can't because they are protected.

The PDA says it uses 802.11x network access control. Where would I find the same info on the laptop?

Oh, the laptop can't see any of these networks at work either.
