    Video Capturing

I've just nicked my dads old Ati All in wonder pro to do some video capturing, made some nice xb vids etc. But with GC being NTSC it doesn't like it, gets black and white image etc. Even though it lets me pick to record in NTSC it won't let me pick the broadcast to be NTSC only PAL and SECAM. Anybody know of any different video capturing software or a way i can get around this?

try dscaler from www.dscaler.com this is better than any vga converter regardless of price for picture quality but I am not sure if you can record or not.

But anyone with a capture card should have this awesome bit of software installed instaed of the pap that comes with the cards.

Strangely DScaler just says not suitable hardware found. Been using virtual dub and that works fine but i don't think it can do the broadcast and record in ntsc.

I've been using VirtuaDub also since my video capture card won't work with DScaler either... I managed to get NTSC video to work but I can't remember what setting I changed. I'll poke through the setting to see what I did.

If you are serious about video capture or playing games on a monitor you could buy a packard bell tv-100 tv card from pc world @?29.99.

quite simply it use the best chip you can buy this side of ?600, and the results from s-video from consoles is stunning when used with dscaler and an ati vga card.

there is no vga box that can touch it, in fact some of the home cinema boys are scrapping there scalers at a few grand for this option.

Cool, so with this i use my original grfx card and this tv card as well yeah?

Because from looking at the picture on pc worlds site it's only got video in. On this ati i'm using now its got video in and out so i can hook it up to my tv and watch r1 dvd's through it.

Will i be able to use that PB card and this ati one at the same time?

your vga card does the video out, which may include s-video, composite and/or component as well.

the P Bell TV-100 just grabs images in via composite or s-video, and it has a tv tuner but I never used that, and with dscaler you can then scale your games to match the native reolution of a tft monitor, plasma or projector, or you can set custom resolutions to match pal and ntsc games/dvds etc.

say 720x576 at 75hz for pal
and 720x480 at 60hz for ntsc

this is exactly doubling the standard resolution and creates a far smoother, with less artifacs picture than say 800x600 or 1024x768.

and by keeping the Hz at a muliplier of the pal 50hz and ntsc 60hz you will keep jusdder away too.

              hope that helps a bit.

All the comps I've tried DScaler on don't recognize the capture facilities if it's built into a video card. It seems to need a dedicated capture card. Most of them are the same chipset (BT878) with a different brand on the box so it doesn't really matter which card you buy.

You'll be able to use both cards in the same computer. The ATI is a video card with built in capture support, and the card you'd be buying is a dedicated video capture card.

yeah the whole point of buying the TV-100 card is that fact that it uses the same philips chip that is used in cards 10 to 20x the price, not the usual chip found in just about every other cheapish (less than ?100) card on the market.

no, Pakard Bell is their own brand.

Maybe currys or is it comet, whichever is part of the same group.

                        Tosh ZD26

Time to resurrect this thread, as I need some help. I bought the PB TV-100 on many people's advice, but I have a problem...

I am currently attempting to create a setup which allows me to capture images from my Toshiba ZD26.

In the manual it states that Scart 2 supports an output. So I connected this to my capture card and all fine thus far, the TV signal is being output onto my PC. But for some reason it will ONLY output my TV (RF) signal.

I checked the menu setup to ensure that the ouput was correctly setup, I tried all 4 output settings (EXT1/EXT3/TV/Monitor) all of which still output my RF signal to the PC.

I currently have the wires set up like this:

PC capture card to TV scart 2 (EXT2)using a Svideo - Svideo cable with Svideo -Scart adaptor. Input into scart 1 (EXT1) I have a quintro box which has all of my gaming consoles.

Anyone else had similar problems with the output signal from scart 2 using a Tosh ZD26? Or had problems in relation to a capture card?

(if no-one knows here, where else would be a good place to ask for advice?)

So if you put on SCART 1 on the screen it still outputs the RF TV ? One thing to check is that some SCART cables and convertors only work in one direction. See if you can make composite work first then try Sv-dei.

Also on my Sony TV, I have the option of selecting what to send to the output
                          channel, Tuner / EXT 1 / EXT 3 / EXT 4

                          Neil.

Yep, think I've worked it out though. Might be beacuse the TV can't convert the RGB signal input (EXT1) and convert it out to s-video. Going to hook up my GC tonight via S-video into EXT3 and try that instead. If that doesn't work I'll have to try using composite. Wish me luck :P
