    PS2 Component

Got my PS2 component in today, and have been testing it out on my LG26LX2R.

    Just a few quick questions:

    1) Does everyone who uses componenet get borders around the whole screen? Only way I've found to get rid of them is to zoom and reposition using the TVs menu.

    2) How do I turn progressive scan on?

    Thanks

I think progressive scan is game dependent, SotC and tekken 5 for instance have options to turn it on when you first load them.

Yeah, jsut realised that. But the borders are very annoying.

In response to 1), some games just don't render in the overscan area, you should just leave it. (Easier said than done, I know).

Got a picture of the borders?

Some games that don't have it in the options (eg. Burnout Revenge) require you to hold Triangle + X on loading the game. You get a prompt to switch to prog scan.

Boarders are caused by the fact that CRT's have a certain level of overscan, which many games take into account.

You can reduce the overscan level in the Service Menu, though I prefer the boarders as it is actually correct, and works best because some games don't have them.

It was originally done on crts as they are hard to converge and focus at the edges, and also there is info running across the top of broadcast material like text stuff, with overscan you don't see this.
However an lcd only has approx 2%, now with tv this is not a problem but when you put a game on it can be as not all games fill the full frame.

In some games I get the screen edged to the right side and have to reposition using the ingame option.

Had this problem with the old CRT, but is it normal on LCDs?

On a crt you used to get image shift to the left when using RGB because of the way the sync works and where the image starts to draw the scanlines, don't know why it would be shifted to the right on an LCD though?
