I have not a to bad machine. But even some of the 3dmark 05 tests the frame rate is very low.

    This will probably kill it

Its a shame futuremark do not try and make a game

I used to love running the 3D mark programs and seeing how my PC compared, but I've long retired from that race... PC hardware is just way too expensive these days compared to consoles and other gadgets

Wasent there something about certain hardware manufacturers optimizing there cards so they run 3dmark better?......And not doing it with the actual games

That kind of optimisation always happens though. There have been "scandals" with both ATI and Nvidia doing that at various points, with synthetic benchmarks or the relevant version of Quake or whatever. 3DMark is still a valid benchmark though, insofar as any benchmark like that is really meaningful...

They both made it so when you ran 3dmark.exe the drivers would turn down all the settings (liek when you set up a gamging profile on nvidia drivers) so it would rocket the scores.

Can't wait to give this a whirl tommorow, don't give a rats ass about the score, but they sure do look cool.

Apparently if you have an ATI 800 series or lower it won't work properly due to them not supporting SM 3.0 where as geforece 6 series do.

merged threads, either Gamespot or here

We create the world's most widely used benchmarks and performance tests including 3DMark, PCMark, Servermark, and VRMark. Get started now with our free downloads.

seem to be the only options, everyone is grabbing today so will be slow, 580mb crikey. Let us know if you find anywhere faster, cheers.

Hardware manufacturers get burned on benchmark cheats like that now though, so none dare try it. Nvidia was the first, and it was quite clever... but if you broke from the fly-by path and tried to navigate the levels freely, you found nothing was being rendered that wasn't visible from the fly-by path. Essentially cheating.

I got 1886, but for some reason it only runs the two SM2.0 tests and two CPU tests

Pretty sure I should be able to use the HDR test. Oh well!

Yeah you should be able to run the entire set of tests.

                            As a comparison I got 2206 (SM2.0 973, HDR/SM3.0 883, CPU 690).

edit actually scrap that, I can't remember what card you have.

                              2642 for me (3700+/6800U/2GB)

Was a bit disappointed to see tweaked versions of the '05 tests though. It may be a benchmark but they should keep it interesting!
