Quick question on Modded Xboxes

I'm not doing it myself, but someone I know is claiming that they're able to play pirated games on their normal Xbox (I.e, Not chipped to change the BIOS, no new hard drive etc). He claims all he needs is a memory card.

Is he telling the truth or bsing?

Sounds like a softmod. It's certainly real, installed using a bug in Mechassult, Splinter Cell and other games.

Although if its done it no longer is a normal xbox. You'll still get banned if you go on live

I did it to my brothers XBox (though using a simpler method - hotswapping the HDD in his machine for my modded machinem copying the required files then swapping back).

There's no disadvantage compared to a proper modded machine, you just can't disable it (or you can, but you had to do it a certain way).
