    PSU brand recommendations ..

I recently purchased a new case ( Antec P180 ) and while I am delighted with the case itself I have one little problem . I've found due to the psu being isolated at the bottom of the case , my current psu cables are too short to reach the motherboard ^^;.
So ,impulsivly I went and purchased a Q-tec 650w triple fan power supply .Way too much power for my needs, but it was a steal at ?30.Or so I thought , turns out it doesnt even power up and on further research i've learned that Q-tec psu's are generally of a low quality.

So I was wondering if anyone had any views on teh following brands:-

    Tagan
    Hiper
    Antec
    Enemax

    [Thanks in advance ]

no dont use any cheap ones like q-tec as they will take out all your system if they blow

what i recommend from using is enermax, antec, ocz powerstream

enermax, excellent build quality and generally very good excellent voltage rails

antec, again excellent build quality and quiet especially the neopower i'm using at the moment

ocz , excellent build quality, adjustable voltage rails, best for overclocking

the other two i've heard of but haven't used before

also if you can afford it go for the psus that have cable management where you only use which ones you want as this improves airflow inside the case, not a problem for me as i have a stacker pc case

Thanks for the quick reply and the advice Wod .

Looking around I did notice that Enermax and Seasonic seem to be highly praised , although they tend to be a little expensive . Especially as my current pc isn't all that special.
I think I'll go for either Antec or Tagan , and take on your advice about the cable management feature. The basic design of the new case is to optimise air flow and cooling management . So it would be kinda of daft to counteract this with a hord of cables , especially unused ones.

what spec is you pc as you could get away with a 450watt one or something to keep the cost down ?

It's blantantly obvious to me now that I am not as clued up as I should be on psu matters. With this pc , my first build ,I used a psu from an old HP machine ( 300w ).And I overlooked the importance of a good power source i guess.

          Anyway , my ?300 pc (^^*)

          P4 2.0ghz
          768 MB Sdram
          128mb Geforce 5800 Ultra
          3 HDD
          DVD-RW Drive
Motherboard is an old Jetway BN507 or something (^^*)
          Soundblaster 5.1

then you'll only need a 400watt for that then or spend abit more and get a 500watt one so you dont have to buy another when you upgrade later on to something faster

Another recommendation for Antec here as well.

I bought this one and couldn't be happier.

                It powers:

                AMD 64 3500
                2 x HDD
                2 x DVD/RW drives
                ATI 850XT

plus all the other gubbins in the pc (fans and such) with no problems at all.
Runs real cool as well, hell on a hot day I can open the door to my case and cool my toes with the thing

I'm going to avoid buying Enermax in the future. I had one die on me early last year after about 2 years, and the replacement one is now playing up.
Maybe the newer ones are more reliable, but I'm not going to bank on it.

                    We'll I decidede to aim for a psu with cable management , as Wod advised.With this in mind and a bit of a tight budget I narrowed it down to Tagan or Hiper. I found the cable management ones from Enermax and Antec were too expensive ^^;

In the end I went for the cheaper of the two , which was the Hiper (HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU).Hopefully it will be a good choice (^^*).

                    Cheers for the posts guys...

Just read a small snippet in a review that mentions the modular cables are a tad short, this could result in my inital dilema .

                      Bugger ! ^^

Yeah I looked at the Stacker cases , Coolmaster right? First and last time I'll ever say this to another guy but ,yours does look bigger than mine.
In this situation , hopefully it will be in my benefit ^^
