VGA - DVI - HDMI (dreamcast)

If i use a series of adaptors, could i display my Dreamcast (vga 640x480) through an HDMI socket?

Well, VGA is analogue, so you'd have to use some sort of analogue to digital converter (VGA to DVI-D).

    But it's theorietically possible, yes.

No, it would not. A DVI-I connector will carry a signal (either analogue or digital) but can't convert one to the other.

As Shakey says, some sort of analogue to digital converter is needed, but probably it's not worth the hassle.

You actually need electronics to sit in the middle of the TV and Dreamcast to do the Analogue to Digital conversion. That'll set you back a lot of money.

I doubt that cable would work - it's probably for a special application, like those Component to SCART cables you see. They don't work for what most people need them for.

Well lets get back to the basics here.

There are 3 types of DVI.

                  DVI-D - Digital.
DVI-A - Analogue (essentually the same as VGA)
                  DVI-I - Analogue & Digital.

If you have a TV that has a DVI-I input, you can use the adaptor in the link you posted to connect a VGA device to a DVI-I input, because DVI-I accepts Analogue inputs.
Many TV's only have DVI-D, so they're **** out of luck - pays to check this beforehand!

You will not be able to do this because HDMI is digital only.

thanks for that m8, well explained

bit miss-leading as he seems to market this lead as being able to play a vga source from a pc etc on a HDMI input

Will a cheap ?12.50 VGA box for your DC that has S-video out on it not give the higher resolution?
