video game shops in New York?

Does anyone know of any good game shops in New York?

A mate of mine is off to New York soon, and has asked me about it.

I only know of ncsx, who are mail order. They will tell you which local shops they supply though.

Also, does anyone know whether you can still get Nuons (Samsung N505) in the US/New York? Last I heard they were being sold off cheap by Walmart about a year ago...

    Thanks for your help,

    Papercut.

There's an absolutely huge store on on Park Row in downtown Manhattan (near City Hall), it's called J&R.

Should perhaps add to that, that you'll not really get stuff that cheap in NYC. Where you find the cheap stuff is in the malls out of town, there is a huge one across the Hudson near Hoboken in New Jersey that I know of, and probably plenty in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

There are plenty of shops in NYC but it isn't a cheap place

          Perhaps try yell.com

That may throw up a few, maybe even a few websites. Just a thought

In august, I'm going to San Fransisco.
Does anyone know a good videogamestore there?

I guess I'll find one when I get there, but I'd like to know where to go in advance...
            Tnx!

Even though they aren't videogame specific, places like K-mart, Wal*mart and Toys 'r' Us always have huge game sections. And in NYC they'll probably be even huger. You're bound to find an EB there though, too.

forbidden planet in NY (the same as the one in london, i think) stocks all sorts. plus its got all sorts of other really cool ****. its just south of union square on broadway.
heres the website: http://www.forbiddenplanetnyc.com - looks like its not part of the uk ones, i guess its an independent.

also try toys'r'us (theres one just on the east side of union square) and j & r music, as was mentioned by Marty.
True, they ain't as cheap as the suburbs, but they're a hell of a lot cheaper than here or import.

I just got off the phone to my Dad who's in New York. I asked him if he could get me GS2. He said to me "Yeah, there's loads of game places, they'll be no trouble there. You'd be in your element"

So I'm assuming your mate will not have trouble finding any game shops either.

Right I'm off to NYC tomorrow for the wkend and one of the titles I'm after will be SC:Pandora Tom. Now unfortunately I'm travelling back on Sun night (21st) and SC isn't supposedly out till Tues (23rd).

So I was just wondering what are the game stores like when it comes to enforcing release dates? Is it similar to over here whereby you can get 'em early from indies or one store starts selling early and everyone follows?

If so any recommendations on which stores to try first or may be more willing to sell early, if not I'll just try and blag 'em all?

                            All help/info much appreciated...

If you go to chinatown, then then go to J & L Game Trading Ltd. on Elizebeth street, which runs off Canal street one street west of Mott Street, so visit it and the arcade, great area anyway even if you just look around.

                              http://www.jnlgame.com/ their website

This is an import store and they do everything on domestic (us) and import from Japan and Asia, from NES to latest NEO carts and then all the new GC, PS2 etc.

Do not expect to go to New York and pay the prices you pay online though, a game that retails for say $35 online with gamestop will be $55 dollars instore, exactly the same as you can buy a new title for ?45 here or around ?30 online.
