Bringing Xbox NTSC US to Europe

Hey folks, I am new to the board and I have to say that it is the single most complete repository of information for anyone wanting to use US equipment in Europe. Good job.

Now to my question: I will be relocating to The Netherlands from the US, and I understand they use the same standards as in UK in terms of TV's and power.

My first idea was to bring the whole setup (NTSC Xbox and 19" TV), get a powerful stepdown converter, and tuck it away in some corner for gaming and the occasional DVD. My main TV setup would be a larger LCD to be bought in Europe (or in the US after some research)

But reading through here, I am now thinking I can connect the Xbox to the intended LCD without too much trouble simply by using a component cable (which I already have) or an RGB Scart (which is not difficult to get).

Is it really that easy? Stepdown converter and the right cable does the trick? Or are there any specific features I should look for in this new LCD?

    Help is appreciated!

    Hey Nola,

    Welcome to the boards

Your understanding is pretty much spot on. All you'll need to get your Xbox up and running in Europe is a step-down converter (150w or >) such as this one:

*This particular step-down is fitted with a UK plug (3 pin) which is different from the type used in the NL (2 pin), so you'd also need a European travel adapter - see the attached link for more info.

You'd be best to stick with your component leads as you can't get progressive scan output through a scart lead.

With regard to buying an lcd tv all you need to make sure is that it has a component input for your leads and supports 480p @ 60hz. You might want to consider paying a little extra for a 'hdtv ready' set so that you can receive hi-def tv broadcasts (not sure what's available in the Netherlands) and for newer consoles such as the 360.

    Hope this helps!
