PSP - Is it safe to use a 2.6 memory stick on a 1.5 PSP?

I have brought myself a new PSP, which is firmware version 1.5 so that I can run homebrew stuff. I currently have a PSP that is updated to firmware 2.6.

Is it safe to use the same memory stick I use for my 2.6 PSP on the new 1.5 PSP? Or would the memory stick have some sort of data on it that would automatically change the new PSP to version 2.6?

Hope this doesn't sound like a retarded question, but I don't want to risk having to buy another PSP...

All firmware info is in the actual PSP so you can use any memory stick on any PSP without worrying.
