    X-Box modding/bios questions

Succesfully did my first X-Box mod last night, including the fitting of an 80gb hard drive.

    Go me!

I'm as far as bios flashing the chip, but can't find anywhere to download the latest version that is mac compliant,as i just keep getting pages of gobbledegook.

Does anyone have any ideas or links that would help me out,or the rar file of the bios?

    Thanks.

Nick to flash the chip via a mac, I'm sure I used Safari - you need to set up FTP from Xbox to Mac. It's been that long since I did it I've forgotten & seem to have binned me files and 'how to's'
I'm pretty sure the Actual file dosen't need to be mac compliant, just needs to sit on your computer, it's the Xbox that reads the file, not the mac.
    What chip are you using?
Once you flash it, get hold of Slayers Auto Install & this will format your HD, lock it/unlock it and install lots of apps.

If you have a Xecuter 2.6 or above, they come with a legal bios that enables you to flash it over the network.
To help, you need to tell us what chip you have (as mentioned), your xbox version 1.0-1.6 and what you want it to boot.

Trying in Safari mate and its not having it.

Did you get an ip of 192.168.0.99?

Just wont connect and is making me swear.

Wonder if i have to use IE,which i dumped, and you can no longer download without a load of ag.

Try camino, I'm pretty sure it works with IE as well. Have you got it connected through a router? Make sure the chip switches are set to correct positions as well. You can also burn the file to a CDRW and flash the chip that way as well.
IE will be on your system discs - probably any free cover disc for a mac as well.

Got IE now,had to get it off a work computer as it wouldn't restore from my OSX system discs. Camino wouldn't connect.
Nige, did you do it from a cdrw? Reckon its easier that way? Would you still have it?

Going to try it tonight with IE. Its connected to my Powerbook directly, not through a router, and i tried Transmit aswell, and the chip is a 2.6.

This is the screen i keep getting.

Nick, I did it straight from my computer. Have you ever had your powerbook networked to any other computers?
You could try manually assigning you computer a number instead of the auto DCHP. HAve you got file sharing ect turned on?
If you have access to a modem router, I'd suggest using that. It seems to be having problems picking up DCHP.
I don't have it on CDRW I'm afraid, I don't think I even have it anymore, which is a bit worrying!
Let me know how it goes!

                Thanks for the replies Nigel.

                "Connection error" now,using IE.

Going to try to burn it to a cd whan i get a blank one tomorrow, after that its going in the bin.

Why don't the chips come pre-flashed?

It's an illegal bios. THe linux one isn't, but dosen't do anything!

Managed to flash the Bios, booted the Slayers disc, and formatted the new hd.

Changed the ip and managed to ftp an avi file across to the f drive, but i had to create a 'videos' folder in there.

Would this be correct,or should the folder be there already?

Now my other x-box,when i go into XBMP,has the listings as 'videos on pc,videos on xbox',so on and so forth. This one has the listings as 'network XBSP,network something else, etc etc..'

Which ever one i select the machine just freezes and i have to reboot the machine, doesnt let me go into the option to select the avi file. Would it be an out dated slayers im using?

                    Cheers.
