Xbox Live Help (DNS settings)

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry for asking for help with this as i know this has already been asked. But i can't seem to find an answer on the forum.

Anyway, my mate is a AOL silver user and he is having trouble connecting to live with his new 360. He keeps getting an error about the 'DNS setting's'.

Then when i told him to do the usual 'IPCONFIG' it remained blank. So i'm stumped any help would gladly be appreciated.

Call up AOL and ask for the dns settings - I had to do this with Tesco. I assume he's not using a modem router? Is he trying to share his connection?

Yes he's trying to share the connection. AOL are complet b*stards and are no help at all!

AOL won't give u any DNS settings because they use dynamic DNS.

You'l need to set the DNS settings on the 360 to your router's IP address.

IE, if the router was

192.168.1.1

then the settings for the DNS on the 360 will be

Primary : 192.168.1.1
Secondary : 192.168.1.2

Apparently you can use any dns numbers, but using your ISP's make it quicker.

Dns for AOL is: 205.188.146.145

See if this works.
