New HD into an XB

Got a spare HD knocking about and I'm thinking about sticking it in my Xbox. How do I go about formatting it correctly and transferring my config/ save games onto the new drive? Also is there anything I need to watch out for when physically installing it?

is the box its going into modded or going to be?

Aye, it's already modded.

I assume it's not just as simple as copying my existing settings onto my PC via ftp and then moving them back across once the new drive is in (and properly formatted)?

That's almost it. You'll need an EvoX boot disk to format the dive and FTP the stuff back across though.
