    Pirate DS Games

Hi. I saw a DS game that I quite fancy in Cashconverters but I'm a bit worried that it'll be a pirate copy. Just wondering if these exist and if so, how to tell them appart from real games? Any easy signs like the US packaging you see on HK GBA games?

    Thanks in advance.

Didn't realise there were that many pirate DS games about here in the UK, turn the game card over, above the gold connectors you should be able to see Nintendo in white print on the circuit board, pirate (GBA) copies don't have it.

EDIT 14/6/06 - seems I was jumping the gun,

The packaging should seem a bit dodgy aswell. What is the name of the game? Just have a look at the real boxart and see if it is the same thing. Have a look at the paper bit, if it seems like something you would print of a ?10 printer than it is dodgy :P

It was Mario Kart. It's usually the Mario titles that get pirated as they have the "inflated" prices. Thanks for the tip. I am truely new to the DS scene so I just presumed that there would be some pirate games (espec in CashConverters). I'll check for the nintendo logo before buying.

        Thanks

^ Like it's been said above, I don't think there's any pirate DS games, and even if there are, the chances of finding one in a high street retailer is even lower. you've nothing to worry about.

Another thing to check for is the box art screenshots. If they have website logos on them like loads of the fake GBA games around, you kinda know it's a fake

I can't see it being a pirate, I don't think they exist yet, else you'd see them infecting ebay like all those pirate GBA carts.

I don't think it's possible to produce copies that will run through the DS' card slot due to the advanced encryption on the carts. Anything read through the DS slot gets dynamically encrypted by a chip on the carts and is then decrypted by the console. If the unit see's the code isn't encrypted it doesn't load it.

That's why the passme is needed for homebrew

The only way to run pirated DS games that I know of at the moment is to run the DS ROM from a GBA flash cart and use a special accessory or hacked BIOS on the DS to let it boot DS code from the GBA cartridge slot. So basically unless you've taken steps to let your DS run pirated software you'll be pretty safe with it.
