Which is the best version of modded PS2?

I've just sold my US PS2 and I'm hoping to eventually get rid on my unmodded Jap 10000 series PS2 and my unmodded Jap Slimline PSTwo.

I'm really outta touch with chipped PS2's and I need to know which version is best? UK, US, Jap? I hear it's a UK one but I'm not 100% sure.
And which model is better, chunky PS2 and slimline PS2?

I'm hearing one is better than the other.

Also which chip?

For me I need to play all my US and Jap NTSC games that hopefully will not be outta sync as I got a lot of rhythem games.

Where can I get one premodded or can someone point me in the right direction?

Yep go with a chipped PAL PS2. Can play all DVDs for starters. Just get an RGB cable (if you don't already) and you're set.

Slimlines don't suffer the laser burnout now that the early ones did when chipped, so Sony must have "fixed" that. Chunky is better if you want to go the HDloader route.

SCPH-5000X has quieter drive and IR sensor built-in. Think those were the last of the chunky style.

No i-link port on these though, if that's a consideration.
