    VGA Box

    Hi

So I was thinking of getting a VGA box so I can use 2 VGA devices at once, these being my PC CRT monitor and my Xbox360. So would it work if I got the Box, put the monitor cable in there and the 360 one in the box as well, and then put it into the back of the computer?

Jsut need to know before I buy

    Thanks

Well yeah, though you've got it a bit backwards - your connecting your PC and 360 to the monitor, not connecting the 360 and monitor to your PC!

Anyway, I actually use this one with no visible loss http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SWITCH-BOX-4-W...QQcmdZViewItem

It's no different to a Scart switcher or something.

Above box has 4 inputs - your PC and 360 will go into 2 of the input ports. The box has an output, which will go out to your PC monitor.

You'll probably need a VGA cable to connect the VGA box to your PC if you don't have one http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=21829

My monitor doesnt have a VGA thing in the back of it as it is an old CRT so, was thinking of conencting the 360 and the monitor to the box and then the box to the PC wouldnt that work like that?

Then you need an adapter that goes in the middle, which allows you to use your CRT's existing lead with a new lead to go into the VGA box.

            CRT---->adapter---->Switchbox------>360 & PC

O right so then I get one of them things, get the monitors cable plug that into that adaptor, then... but I... Could you just describe for me how I would conenct it please?

Thanks, im a total n00b to all fo this.

Edit: I dont have a VGA cable coming out of PC so would I need to get a 2 ended one?

That above adaptor actually comes with the 360 VGA cable anyway.

Seriously, it's just like using a Scart switcher. You just think it's more complex than it really is.

Well, you would first get your monitor lead and plug it into that adapter. Then get another seperately bought VGA lead and connect it into the other end of the adaptor. Plug in the other end of this lead into the 'I/O' port of the VGA box. From there, connect your 360 and PC to the box. It's simpler than it sounds.

Make sure you don't use excessively long cables, it'll degrade quality.

Yeh I finally got it now.

Is there anywhere I can get a gender changer that isnt from eBay? Also couldnt the other end of the adaptor go straight into the I/O of the box without needing another cable?

Yeah, like I said it comes with the 360 VGA cable.

And yeah you could do it without the cable, it's just a bit fiddly.
