    Random LIVE Disconnects

Finally got a replacement 360 from MS yesterday, plugged it all up, fired up, works like a charm. But, for some reason I now seem to be getting random disconnects from LIVE, which I've never experienced before. It happended on a number of ocassions whilst playing GRAW yesterday and once this morning whilst downloading content.

I'm running the 360 through a DSL Netgear router and didn't think to change the IP Address on the router until after downloading content, are these things usually attributed to the router in most cases?

I had a random disconnect the other day too, when I was playing DOA4. Just browsing through the online menus and it suddenly comes up "You have been disconnected from Xbox Live".

It's hard to say where the fault lies really. It could just be that the servers on Microsoft's end suffered a small glitch and dropped the connection. Could be a problem with the router. Could be a problem with the cable/adsl provider. I know we get occasional days where Telewest go a bit nuts and our cable connection goes on and off all day.

It can be hard to pinpoint a problem when there are so many variables involved. I'd tend to think though, that if you have a PC going through the same router and that isn't having any problems, it's more likely to be a problem at Microsoft's end.

      True mate, very true.

It'd been fine on my previous 360, so put it down to a possible IP address problem on the router, so changed it and will hope for the best. Might even be worth powering down both the router and modem and bringing them back up, since they're pretty much on 24/7 at home.

I'm on Telewest as well and it has been a bit shakey as of late with slower speeds, but as you say, lots of variables to consider really. Thought it might've been a faulty cable, but I wouldn't have got a connection full-stop if it'd been that.

I've had this a fair few tiimes since getting my 360 about 2 months ago.

I will be playing in single player mode then I finish the level/race etc and find out I have been disconnected and have to reconnect. I kind of just assumed it was normal and left it.

I guess it hasn't bothered me so much as I rarely play online so it's not like I've been kicked out of any matches or anything. Perhaps it would bug me more then.

It is annoying mate, especially when your mid-game and the poxy thing boots you. I wouldn't have minded if the lag was attrocious, but there was none - at all.

Turning everything off and then back on again is a good idea. It's surprising how many times that's all you need to fix a problem! I've been quite lucky with problems like this, only one disconnect and a couple of freezes since I got my Jap 360 in late December. Although I've probably cursed myself by saying that

That's the first port of call I think, power everything down and see how I go, will then try connecting directly to the modem itself if that don't work and finally, changing the cable.

Fingers crossed it'll be fine though.
