What's the best way to value a collection?

For insurance purposes, how do you guys go about it? Do you check the price of every import game on ncs/tronix etc, or is there a some kind of database somewhere (unlikey, I know).

    Any help?

I usually go by what the ebay price currently is plus a few pounds. i.e the cost of replacing the item if it were ever stolen.

I've done a few evaluations for people on stuff they have had stolen (or needed to insure) and need a replacement value. I did charge and one person got annoyed when I charged him ?50, thinking we would do it as a service, ignoring the fact it took 3 hours to research and write up...

However it's *recommended* that you do check your insurance policy and any collectables you have are either covered by your contents insurance or are seperately insured, some insurers adjusters may devalue your collection. :/

You could list everything you have, take serial numbers of all consoles, then just write in rough replacement values for items then insure it for that.

Cheers MD. I take it by collectables you mean stuff like Tekki & Samba Maraccas? Surely if you disclose any particularly expensive/collectable items to the insurers, they would have to pay out on a claim, no?

Be careful, becuase certain Insurance companies will not actually cover games collections. ALways ask and state quite clearly that they are imports etc and not exactly easy to replace.
