    Stepdown Transformers

Hey can anyone point me in the direction of a good place to buy a stepdown? I dont want to be too expensive if possible. Thanks

[pimp] I have one here that says it can be used for GC, PS, PS2 and DC. It is 60W. You can have it for ?12.50 delivered.[/pimp]

60watts is too little for ps2 etc. I think its gotta be atleast a 100/105 watt one.

100w is the minimum you'll be wanting for PS2.

The machine is 79w, so plugging it into a 60w will cause the PS2 to explode - guaranteed!

Actualy its for my Initial D steering wheel and thats 100VAC/Watts so is a 105watt stepdown enough? Or am I going to need a more expensive one

You're pushing it to the limit. I'd suggest that your stepdown will blow within a month of use.

Really you'll be wanting 200w to be completely safe. You could scrape by with 150, but that too would likely expire before too long. Remember, you can never have too high-rated a stepdown. I personally use a 300w one from Maplins. It was expensive (around the ?50 mark), but it'll last me forever.

Oh, and you're prolly best posting stuff like this in the Q&A forum.

I thought 60W was too low for a PS2, but it does say that it works with it, and the stepdown is even shaped like the PS2. Hmm I dont want to give it a go if it will blow it though so I am not sure how I will test it.

I think I will just get a 150watt stepdown xbox is a 110 console and the wheel is only 100 so should be fine but back to the original question is there a cheap place to get one? maplins seems a bit pricy ive only seen goblins one. Anyways that 60watt one is probably only good for a psone or dc. You sure its 60watts? Shaped like a ps2?

This is what it says on the back of the stepdown.

                  Model No. SPS-200G
                  Input: AC 220~240V 50Hz
                  Output: AC 115~120V 60W
FOR: GAMECUBE. PS. PSII and DC

The name of the adaptor is a PSX2.

Odd if it doesnt work with a PS2.

Maybe sony are making cheap stepdowns so that users blow their ps2s and have to buy another? Who knows

                      Ratings on my kit.

                      Gamecube US: 39W 12V DC
                      PS2 Jap: 39W 100V (v7 rev)

A 60W stepdown, although cheap and not exactly future proof, should work fine. Higher rated ones are always recommended though.

Talking with disco tom his US PS2 is 79W, like Burai mentions above.
My PAL unit is 50W (v7 rev).

                      Now I'm getting confused.

I have always used pretty basic step downs for PS2, I have a 50w one at the moment on a version 7 jap ps2 and that is fine.

if it is the one shaped as a ps2 it will do the job.

As a matter of interest does the Logitech wheel use an external power supply GC style? If so could a UK power supply work on it?

Yes. It's needed for the force feeback only. It works as a 'normal' wheel without the psu plugged in.

Yes, if it's of the correct spec.
