    Bulldog Vs NTL

I am getting a bit bored of NTL the price is high considering what you get,and ever since they started running the 10MB service the net seems to have been up and down on a weekly basis like some prossies knickers (I am still on the 2MB service.) I have heard about Bulldog but some people seems to think its as good as while others are giving horror storys. Just wanted to know peoples feelings. Cheers.

Prehaps your right about 10mb service indirectly affecting everyone else, I have NTL 1mb line and the last three weeks have been back to bad old days of reseting cable box etc etc not good.

I've been with both Bulldog and NTL in the last 2 years. They are both horrendous and I constantly recommend anyone and everyone to avoid them like the plague.

Check out www.adslguide.org.uk, an independent review site to compare customer service/reliability of different providers, it will save you hassle and stress in the long run.

aside from the terrible customer service, I have nothing but praise for NTL, my 2mb connection has been flawless since day 1...

i haven't tried this yet but i'm going to ring tomorrow, this is from another forum.

"Armed with information taken from here...

Phone NTL up and say that you have had a few hours to research other broadband suppliers prices. I was on the 2mb unlimited package which cost ?24.99. I said is there is any thing you can offer me or do I have to change suppliers.

Firstly she offered me ?5 discount per month but after quoting 3 others at ?14.99 they took a further ?5 off taking it down to ?14.99 per month.

And remember try to be polite It will get you further"

Yeah just seems to be really bad recently and it seemed to be about when it began to mess up. I guess I could just see if they are willing to lower the price with all the problems recently.

Ive been with NTL since they first started doing BB and ive never had any probs with them ive never even had to contact customer services, nothing but praise here.

As far as Bulldog go the only place ive heard opinions about them was on BBC Watchdog at christmas and needless to say they werent good opinions.

              Fair enough, I will stick.

Just getting a little fed up of not being able to browse major sites because or an issue the engineers are aware of.

Be aware that (up to) 8MB ADSL (MAX) goes live across the UK as of 31st of this month, most of the big ISPs are going to be supplying Max products, so if you live close enough to the exchange speeds over 2Mbit are very possible and mostly at similar prices to what we pay now.

Im with Bulldog and the actual net service has not been down once in the 3 yrs i have been with them.

The CS is pretty good, can take a while to get through, but i have an 0207 number so that helps a lot. The only downside is im still paying ?25 for a 1 meg service.

                  Gonna call them now,politely.

It seems to me with isp's for every horror story warning you off someone comes along with nothing but praise,so it's a bit of a Russian Roulette of the experience you will get.

The guy who lives downstairs from me, had complaints with bulldog:
"they say its 8 meg, but I only get downloads at 300k a second!"

                    Damn kids.

Then again, I played DoD with a guy on Bulldog whose connection would die every ten minutes, pretty much on the dot. Needless to say, he wasn't much use in a clan match.

                      Lol.

I'm on 1 meg and have had 131 tops, but an average of around 80-100.

Yeah, i think he was actually expecting to download at 8 megabytes per second too, so i'm sure he put some calls into tech support.

Sometimes I max my (2mb) line out on normal web downloads.. Moreso with FTP, and I always reach max speed on Usenet! My friend, who has 8 meg NTL, also maxes out his line on usenet (thats 1.3 meg per second).

                        Son of a bitch.

And oh.. I know this is a Bulldog VS NTL thread.... but....

I highly reccommend my current ISP, zenadsl (www.zenadsl.com). Who, starting at the end of this month, are doing 8 meg lines. Been with them since 512k ADSL was "brand new". And i've never had to call their CS in that time.

Sadly, most ISP's are starting to cap download totals, which sucks for people like me who download insane amounts over a month..

I'm just waiting for NTL to enforce this my wife was looking at us going with BT & Sky instead of NTL for everything, she thought 3gb a month was ample until I mentioned it wouldn't even last ten days.
Are the UK the only country with capped downloads ? know they don't have them in the States, I had to explain to JRMacumber what a cap was !!

Europe have been using caps for a long time.

Some ISP's in the US have caps, same as over here. Compared to some countries, we get a pretty good deal on the internet. Less developed countries (obviously), have to pay a ****load more, for crappier services.. Then again, in places like Sweden and Korea, they speeds are high, the prices are low, everyones happy. I hope that this capping thats going on, will just be a phase until everyone has the internet, and it starts getting used for more than just browsing and email. E.g, Video on Demand. No caps then! I hope. ?_?

I'm quite annoyed at the fact I will have to switch from Zen. They are letting my keep my uncapped 2meg line, but it'll only be a matter of time before they make me move.

Also, i've heard NTL aren't too fussed about the caps. As long as you arent downloading 124981294812 gigs a month, it should be ok! Also, they just send nasty letters, instead of charging you an extra ?1 per gig.
