MAX DSL - phone number checkers updated

As of today, the phone line checkers used by ISPs have been updated to let you know what speeds you can expect with the new MAX products on offer.

MAX gives you anything up to 8Mbit down, and close to 500kbit up on home products, the checker should give you a better idea what you can expect now.

The easiest one to have a quick look on is www.bt.com/broadband .

Apparently my 2Mbit connection can now support anything from 5 to 8 now

Now to choose between the extortionate offers around.....

The BT site says anything from 5-8 for me but Pipex seems to think I can only get a maximum of 5.

Either way it's better than what I'm on now

i know i entered a friends number and it says that can only do 4.5mbps so i just reckon its estimating them until you order an upgrade and they proper test it

BT says only 4mb for me, and I'm right on top of my exchange, as the crow flies.

Mine says 3.5 or greater which is a bit vague. Still it would be better than my current 1mbps. It'll be interesting to see what packages ISPs start offering when this is fully up and running.

the modem your using now should work fine as they are rated up to 8mb download

What happens basically is for the first week or so they see what the maximum stable rate you can get is, and then lock it at that.

                          Apparently.
