    Windows 2000 Server Active Directory

    Ok, ok, ok.

I have this problem at work. Our Systems Administrator has gone away for a few days to Italy for some work/motor racing.

Anyhow, one of our operators asked me to help her change her password. So I decided to use the Active Directory Users and Computers on our Windows 2000 server.

However, when I clicked on any of the user accounts, it kept coming up with "Local Error". Sometimes asking me to check the Domain Controller connection settings.

So, I thought, I'll risk it and close the Active Directory console down and re-launch it.

Bummer. Now I get an error that reads:

    ------------------------
Naming information cannot be located because:
    The logon attempt failed.
Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly configured and is currently online
    ------------------------

    Can anyone help?

I heard that last week the system adminstrator scalped a guy just for loading the paper the wrong way in one of the network printers!

    Am I doomed?

Closing the console doesnt kill Active Directory, clearly there is a existing problem with the server which a sympathetic and understanding Administrator should recognize. Is anything in the eventlog relating to this?

This just sounds like someone trying to open the AD&C mmc when they don't have permissions on the domain.

Which account did you use? The Domain Admin?

if the operator wants to change her password , just get her to ctrl - alt - delete and go to change password

or if she cant remember it you will have to login on the server with a domain admin account and change it there
