How to open a .wps file?

One of my colleagues just received a .wps file via email containing an image created with 3DS MAX.

The problem is that she can't open it and neither can I.

    I have downloaded both:

    - Works 2000 to Word Converter (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/wp2krtf.aspx)
    - Works 6.0 Converter (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/wp6rtf.aspx)

for Word, but to no avail. When I right click on the .wps file and bring up the "open with" list, there is no Microsoft Works in the list. And when I select Microsoft Word to open the document, the following error message appears:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Works cannot access one or more required files. These files may have been renamed, deleted or moved. Try reinstalling Works, and then starting the program again.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried to open the document in OpenOffice 2.0.2 as well and the following error message appears:

    ----------------------------
    General Error.
    General input/output error
    ----------------------------

    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks in advance.

The converter you're using converts from .wps (MS Works) to Word.

Are you sure its a 3DS max image as they're normally .3ds and .max

The .wps contains an image by the sounds of it, not the .3ds file itself.

Try the .wps viewer here > http://itdl.austincc.edu/blackboard/downloads.htm

Babs is correct - for some reason, the guy sending the file decided to put the image inside a .wps file and then send it over.

Babs - not sure what that .wps viewer did - it seemed to install but then nothing. It did come up with a message telling me that I needed to restart Explorer as it had installed a plugin (for IE4 though??)
