    Norton Internet Security Query

I've recently upgraded my PC Norton Antivirus 2005 to Norton Internet Security 2006, as I liked the NIS I got with my laptop.

I ordered it, paid for it, downloaded it, installed it, updated it, and ran a full scan of the hard drive, all with no problems. However, if I now try scan a specific folder on the hard drive, the file count is incorrect. I can see it scanning the files, as the running commentry (so to speak) shows me which files it's scanning at the time, but the total number at the end is incorrect.

For example, I scanned a folder containing 19 files, and it only reported 12 scanned at the end. I tried another folder, this one containing over 400 images, and the report at the end said 0 files scanned, despite the fact that I watching the running commentry say it was scanning the images.

I'm thinking it's an incorrect setting in the options relating to the virus scanning, but I've been through all the AntiVirus options, and they all look how they did when I had Norton Antivirus on my PC a few days ago.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong here?

    Thank you.

Look in your scanning preferences. Although it will scan each file it only bothers to properly check executables and stuff with executable code in them. So all your jpgs will be checked to see if they are executables that have been renamed, else it ignores them. From memory, you'll find it scans .com, .exe, .dll and .sys files (plus maybe .bat, .scr, .vbs and some others).

You can change what it scans using some settings / advanced settings somewhere, but I forget where because I have gone back to PC-Cillin from Trend, which I've always preferred.
