Annoying Messenger pop-ups

How do I stop getting these? Theyre getting to be a pain.

( Assuming XP )

Control Panel->Admin Tools->Services

Look for messenger
Stop the service
Set it to manual start up

Close the windows you've opened with "OK"

Problem fixed.

Another thing how do i stop getting spam ?? get it all the time
I am running XP and AOL 8 on my Advent laptop, any help would be gratefully received(sorry to hijack this topic)

spam; dunno about AOL8 but if its a pop3 mail account you've got SAProxy is fantastic and free:
