Can you install Media Center 2005 on a external hdd as only got one pc and need that for uni work and such

Media Center 2005 is Win XP with a few extras. In other words, you can still install office and other work applications on to it.
Not sure about the external HDD. Can you set your BIOS to boot from it? -
If its a recent BIOS you should be able to set it to boot from all manner of devices, check that first. TBH even I didn't realise until I installed it, that Media Center itself is just a program you start on top of XP itself.Comment

You can't install Windows on a USB or Firewire hard drive - you can set most modern systems to boot from usb but Windows won't actually work with the external drive unfortunately.
