360 and Final Fantasy XI question

Hey, im new here and just after a bit of advise.

Firstly, im looking to buy a 360. My mate is selling his premium for ?200 with an extra wireless pad. We're also gonna then play one game of PES5. Each goal he scored adds ?10 on to the ?200, each one i score takes ?10 off. Since i'm better than him i'll get it down to at least ?180.

My other option is an Asian 360 from Play-Asia as the games are cheap and from what ive heard, most of them are in English. Could'nt see an asian version of FFXI on there though so would like to know if the PAL version is region free.

Would just buy my mates, but at ?50 a game i feel i'm getting a little ripped off.

Has anyone on here bought an Asian 360? Would like to hear what you think.
    Any advise is welcome

I don't think they are that cheap on play asia.

You can get most games for ?40 now from play.com or supermarkets.

Also quite a few chinese releases of western games are region free so you can pick up things like battlefield for ?25.

Get the PAL one, with the rate that the 360s pop, the last thing you want is a busted asian console in 3 months time. At least you can get a pal replacement easily and for free

Yeah I found this out the hard way, I really recommend getting a pal console because a busted import 360 will cost you a lot of shipping .

It's a false economy buying an Asian machine. By the time you add on shipping & import duty etc. you'll pay quite a bit more than you would for a PAL unit (approx. ?320 rather than ?280).

If you can get your mate's machine for ?180-?200 then I'd say go for it as you know it's not a dud and you'll have a spare ?120-?140 to spend on games etc. UK games usually sell for ?40 online so even allowing a ?15 saving per game you're going to have to buy 8-10 Asian games before you're any better off and you'll need to wait a week of two for delivery.

With PAL games you can sell them on for ?20-?30ish when you're done with them but Asian games tend to have very little resale value (unless they're region free). So far most Asian games have been released after the PAL version too (Tomb Raider, Oblivion etc.) and if it's anything like the original Xbox many Western games won't even see a release unless the 360 sells well.

Thanks all, definately gonna go with the PAL now. Didnt really think before bout the concequences of it breaking, wouldnt like to be in that position.

Since its my mates ill be buying, he's already activated his xbox live membership thingy. I know its possible to change a gamertag, but will this reset all of the saved game data (i.e stats on wins/losses) for that user? Would like to start from scratch.

Oh, and which maybe 3 game would you recommend out of the following:

            Final Fantasy XI
            Oblivion
            Fight Night
            Burnout
            PGR
            Ghost Recon

Im tempted with FFXI, Oblivion and Burnout. Played Fight Night and PGR and liked them both. Never played GRAW but read some good reviews.
Any others suggestions would also be welcome
            Thanks again guys

FFXI is as good as it ever was, but if you've got the game on any other format don't bother, as there's nothing different.
