    MagicKey II for PS2?

I've come across this product, MagicKey II, which claims to offer the best solution to getting (certain version) PSTwo's to play imports ie. UK PAL console playing US NTSC games. Does anyone have any opinion/experience of this system?

Would it be better to go down the importing a US NTSC PSTwo + power supply route instead? If so, where from and what are the typical UK customs charges on a such a console?

The magic keys 2 are just tabs that when connected to the pstwo make the pstwo think that the flap is closed all the time.

The magic keys 2 alone are useless, along with them you need the Swap Magic discs which basically boot, then ask you to insert a game disc, put the import in, press X then it boots (they're pretty good but not 100%. They have problems with a few games and don't support dvd9 games like Gran Turismo 4 etc)

If you're gonna go down the route of buying a USA PStwo i've got a brand new one thats still sealed, (the latest slimline version) that I bought for a friend who's been messing me around at the mo so it's for sale. PM me for details if interested

i really wouldn't recommend one of these. i dont know if they got any better, but along time ago before ps2 modding was in its prime, i had the original neokey. it was a pain in the arse and caused all sorts of problems. best bet is to get a us system like jeimuzu said or unlike me having a matrix infinity mod fitted.

        Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I did know the MagicKey II required swap discs - most of the packages I've seen contain everything including those as well. The whole thing sounded very like the PS-X Change system I use with my PSOne, just with a more sophisticated lid catch override. I was just wondering if there was any downside.

^ Thanks for the US PSTwo offer - I'll think about it. Funds are limited at present and which is rather why I want to go down a less expensive route (if reliable) in preference.

I've got this mod and works okay. Disc swap is a minor.

bit OT but has anyone know anything about SBOM(?) key?
I got hold of it recently and it's a small box that plug into USB port.

not sure how useful this thing is...

BTW I also meant to ask about US PS2 power supply. Would I need a 240v to 110v step-down transformer with the new slimline PSTwo? If yes, where from?

No, the PSTwo power supply is multivoltage so will work fine in the UK. All you need to do is replace the US figure of 8 power cord with one fitted with a UK plug. If you've got a UK PS2 or Xbox you can use the lead from that.
