I would like to know if it's possible to connect two PC's (remote connect) over the internet without someone being at the other end, and if it is possible what would i need to do it? Both PC's have broadband access.

I use a program called RealVNC (www.realvnc.com), but there are several different versions of VNC out there. Basically, install the server program on the PC you wish to access, note down its IP, forward the relevant ports (if needed) or open them on your firewall. Then install the viewer on the PC you want to view from, type in the IP and password, and hey presto.
Another one i've used in the past is Radmin (www.radmin.com) - this is a bit quicker than VNC imo, but its not freeware like VNC clients are.

Try (my favourite internet tool) http://www.logmein.com, you would need to set the client up on the remote PC but once done it works a charm, and its free also. All you need is internet access, Ive been singing its praises for ages now and for me at least, its invaluable.

None, its entirely web based. You install the software client to the pc you want to connect to, and then log into the logmein website (after adding basic PC details etc) and it connects to your box, all you need is the client running on the pc you are connecting to and net access (you will need to install the plugin for logmein I expect also).

I use VNC. Its awsome, and there is lots of tweaked versions out there.
The only problem i came across was if you dont want people to see what you are doing at the other end.
To solve that i use Remote Desktop Connection which is built into every Windows Xp machine. Good if you dont wanna install anything extra on your machine.
Also RDC allows Music to be streamed from one machine to the other.
