    360 Demo download speed up's....

Ive noticed over the past few nights whilst downloading the E3 demo's and videos, that after youve downloaded just 6 to 10 percent of the requested file, cancelling the download and then resuming jumps the percentage up to 50 percent. i tried this yesterday on the moto gp3 demo (800 odd meg ) and was playing it within 20 mins ... ????? . Yet when i downloaded the Lost planet demo ( 300 odd meg ) - and left it to start and finish in 1 attempt - i had to wait about an hour and a half before it was ready to play..

    Anybody else noticed this..

Yeh on occasion, I find if you download at times other than peak hours (6 onwards) that the speed is also considerably faster, daytime downloading is really fast.

There's a bug in the dashboard that seems to put the percentage up artificially; it won't move to 51% until it's actually downloaded the first 50% - speeds in general have gone up significantly after the first day. They've either added more servers, done something else to improve it, or it's because everyone got the Halo 3 trailer and wasn't as interested in the rest.

i tried it with the scanner darkly trailer at about 8:30 last night - started it up and stoppepd it at 6 percent - cancelled and restarted it - jumped to 50 percent and then continued downloading straight away -

        Very strange -

Thanks for the tip, just tried it and that has halved my download time Looking forward to the Download Manager thing at the end of the month. Nothing to do at the moment when downloading but mess about on NTSC-UK

Its all a bit odd. Sometimes downloads for me hang on 5% for ages then jump whereas other times it counts up 1,2,3... Speeds are good for me too. I don't think anything has taken longer than 15 minutes to d/l.

i think the downloads are compressed and the size they quote is the uncompressed size (and hence the amount of hdd space said download will use up).

i downloaded the moto gp 06 demo thursday night. it's 800mb and it took about 15 mins instead of the 30 mins it should have taken (4mb).

most of the time the downloads take much much longer than even the quoted size would take to download, implying my bandwidth not being maxed out. a mate told me he was getting faster speeds using his american silver account (probably downloads from us servers but i'm not sure) than his uk gold account. this was on monday though, when everyone was going nuts!
