ok i tried it at work with no luck

the monitor would stretch the image regardless of the output resolution of the 360. i tried 1024x768 (fs), 1280x720 (ws) and 1280x1024(fs 5:4). i also tried the one higher than that (1366x768 i think) and it still worked but as it's a widescreen res, it was stretched regardless.

the good news is that pgr3 did indeed play letterboxed in 1024x768, but as this has already been mentioned it's not 'new' news

my idea about auto-adjusting in the hope that this would fix the stretching proved fruitless.

i've now got my eyes on that 19" acer widescreen tft as savastore's selling one for a measly ?155 (measly? relatively of course!) and as i wasn't planning on spending more than around ?110 for a 17", i could easily stump up the extra for that one (1440x900 res too).

tbh i don't like the idea of playing ws stuff letterboxed anyway - our SD telly is ws, as is this laptop i'm on now - and besides i've heard that watching a lot of letterboxed stuff on a regular telly (or any telly such that you get borders) causes a similar problem to static images (burn-in). mind you, most of the films i watch on my SD telly are 2.35:1 so have borders anyway, and my lappy is 16:10 so *everything* i watch on it has borders!
