My Torrent Download speed has dropped

Hi, I have 6.5mb connection and normally get up to 650K per second on a good day, but there was a power problem at my house today that screwed up my router (Origo ASR 8400 plus 4).

I fixed it, re-installed etc and internet works fine but now all my downloads max out at 176K, any help/ideas???????

I all other progrmames work fine and ADSL speed test confirmed this

    Thanks in advance

Check your ports are open on your router too.

If you updated the firmware on your router, it might have scuppered any port settings.

If you're using uTorrent you can check using Options - Speedtest - Test if port is forwarded correctly.

what is you line syncing at as i have that router ? it could also be a problem with your line profile could have gone back to 2mb as bt have release that there is a problem with adsl max

taken from nildram support section but will apply to all adslmax isps i would have thought

Since the launch of MAX DSL we have become aware of a number of performance issues with the service and these have been taken up with BT. These issues are not Nildram specific and are affecting most ISP?s offering the MAX service.

We have been working very closely with the MAX team at BT and we are able to provide you with the following update:

                  BRAS Profile
It was identified early on there were a number of customers who were having their BRAS profile set at 2Mbps despite their lines being able to achieve higher speeds. BT instigated a fix which reduced the number of lines affected; unfortunately they have now identified a separate issue where the BRAS profile is being set but then reverting back to customer?s pre-MAX profile. BT has assured us that they are hoping to have a fix in place by the end of May.

Maximum Stable Rate (MSR) & Fault Threshold Rate (FTR)
BT have confirmed that they have identified an issue where the MSR & FTR rate were not being reported to Nildram, which is why customers would have seen UNKNOWN in these sections in My Controls.

This issue will not affect the performance of your line, the information is for reference.

BT is working to resolve this issue and will make sure the reports they provide Nildram with, are up to date and have all the relevant information.

I have heard a number of customers have received these rates today, all records will continue to be updated, BT have committed to resolving this issue by the end of May.

We have raised a number of other MAX performance issues with BT and will continue to work with them until they are resolved.

I appreciate this may not be the news you were hoping/expecting, I will keep you posted on any further updates from BT.

I have done a speed test using BT test and get this: 4239 kilo bits per second. but torrents cap out at 170K....
It must ne the port bollocks to sort?

I check with Utorrent and it says the port it is using 32459, is not working properly.

I guess a new router would fix it? I need a wireless one anyway for my PSP

Could well be your ISP has been throttling back on the amount of bandwidth p2p uses.

I doubt you need a new router mate, you just need to try changing your port forwarding to accomodate bittorent. It may be the case that your power problems reset your router (which has happened to me before). :S

To do this you will need to set the port in your routers settings, and in your bittorent clients settings.

I suggest using something like 49152 as like neoboy mentions above, sometimes ISP's throttle certain ports if they find they are being missused.

To do this for your router you will need to access your router setup, usually done though a web interface usually accessible though either http://192.168.1.1 or sometimes http://192.168.0.1

You then need to forward the port to the IP of your computer by going to the port forwarding section of the setup and adding a new port range. This will involve inputing a short description, the local IP of the computer your forwarding to, the port range ( 49152), and make sure you select TCP.

How you set the ports for your individual torrent client depends on what client your using.

A guide on portforwarding for your router can be found here incase you have any troubles:
