Well if you look at someone who touch types with all the right fingers then they can definitely type faster than someone who doesn't. I think I type pretty fast considering I'm basically an index finger typer! But I can never be bothered to touch type as it will take me ages to learn it and actually get faster, but I would have to say in the long run it does pay off.

Seeing people touch type properly and at full speed is amazing, mate from work does it and he can type faster than I can even read the words!

There's no reason natural, fast typing has to follow a set system.

Honestly, you'll develop the ability to type fast and naturally all on your own, don't even give it a second of thought.
Sorry mate, but typing fast is one thing, fast Touch typing is another ballpark.

My aunt touch types at a ridiculous speed and she was trained back in the day with type writers.
Im fast, but im not touch typing fast. I learned to type on mavis beacon teaches typing. I was bored at the sixth form and it was the only program on the PC's that passed the time.

I've found that proper touch typing just feels 'right' after dabbling with it for a couple of weeks now. Still can't type fast, but I seem to be making less mistakes at least Gonna have to get this whole thing sussed the proper way I think, should pay off in the long run.

I can touch type (130wpm I think) but haven't ever used a program... just waaaay too much time at the keyboard!

Typing on a computer before I could talk helped though I guess...

is there a program to measure the wpm without you having to type out a block of text being shown onscreen? i always type slower when doing that (especially as those tests usually make sure you're typing everything correctly, including punctuation)
