N64 video output question

hi all, i have a PAL N64 and at the moment i only have the standard crappy RF lead.

what other video output does the PAL N64 support? S-video/RGB etc

if so, where can i get some decent leads?

The PAL N64 does nothing but composite/RF or really poor S Video. The earlier revisions of NTSC machines can be RGB modded and give a pretty good image quality.

PAL N64's only support S Video, but its ever so slightly washed out!

There is nowhere to trace an RGB signal from on the PAL and later NTSC motherboards. Try the trading forum here for an NTSC N64 - I do the RGB mod for ?20 on NTSC machines, not sure how you can identify the correct revision tho (it's not by model number)

Nintendo are weird like that - I guess it may be to reduce costs to have less ICs on the motherboard. The Gamecube DAC chip is actually inside the D Terminal./Component cable sold seperately rather than inside the machine, it makes sence that they dont include what isnt used by the masses.

People are dicks when it comes to video connection, they are perfectly happy with composite *spit*

You can get **** hot quality s video from a pal n64,all you need is to aply a bit to the s video lead,can't remember off the top off my head what it is,but I will post back when I find out of my mates pal s video modified pal lead.Most people use the leads for an ntsc machine or ntsc gamecube and that would give you a very washed out dull look on a pal machine.

The official S-video lead gives a good pic but the jap and pal leads are definitely different.

I actually picked up a very cheap one today on ebay. JPN RGB modded machine, with the tabs removed to play US imports, a scart lead, UK power supply, Mario 64 US and a gameshark thingy for ?18.

My plan is to swap over the modded RGB board of this one, onto my newer version coloured N64, which cannot be modded for RGB, then sell the black one on.. seems like a good solution to me

yeah , i tried my GC s-video lead on my Pal N64 but the picture is really bright and washed out.

i think its because the NTSC leads are different somehow?

where can i get a PAL s-video lead which works , with a good picture?

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I'd like to try extracting s-video from my unmodded PAL N64. I bought it before I was really into video games to play Goldeneye on, and in my ignorance connected it with the awful RF lead.

It came in the Goldeneye pack, serial NUP15263252. Can I get OKish s-video out of it, and if so, which lead should I get to counteract the washed-out look people've mentioned?

If I can't get s-video out of it at all (or if the quality's so bad that it's not worth it), can I just buy any old NTSC one and expect to get a good s-video signal, or did Nintendo cripple some of those, too?
