Progressive Scan output select on HD72i?

    Hi all,

I have the Optoma Themescene HD72i projector and eventhough the quality is totally stunning I'd like to know how to select between 720p and 1080i using the X-box 360. I've been all over the menus (and internet) and I can't find jack.

Called Optoma and I ended up with some bull****ter telling me that it automatically selects prog-scan frequency from whatever the source is. He also told me to use the 360 HDMi leads instead, or hack my 360 via. a 2nd harddrive. WTF? I then went into "in one ear, out the other" mode.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

PS. Why is it whenever I speak to anyone from down south they automatically start trying to bull**** me on topics I'm pretty familiar with? Once I had some cockney telling me he had a PS3 when I worked in Gamestation (Dec.2004), some other time I had this guy telling me Joe Satriani used to live and London and used to busk for a living. There was even one guy on FFXI called "Londonner" who was totally full of ****. If you're gonna speak to me, please, be silent rather than just erupting bull**** in order to fabricate conversation. **** it, I'm gonna ring Optoma back and complain about that 'support'...

mine does this... be pretty ****ing strange if yours doesn't. you select resolutions etc by flicking to the right most tab of your 360 dash. in the 'screen' setting you can adjust resolution, you've a vga lead right? there should be a few more resolutions available to you.

with jason's GC we had to hold b to get the gamecube to switch to progressive but as long as your 360 is in 720p mode it'll bring everything up in that resolution (it drops down to 480 to display dvds though iirc and your projector should flick over automatically a-la a pc monitor changing res).

Yep - when switching to a DVD I get the blue screen of death, followed by the input source scan, and then the 360 again in pant mode.

Yeah, I've buggered around with all resolutions but none work when the projector is set to 'native' - I have to bloody squash stuff into letterbox which makes some edges more blurry than others, instantly noticeable on the 360 dashboard text.

I shouldn't be complaining as I've been more than happy with things so far. However with messing around yesterday I managed to add another 12 inches of height thanks to the 16:10 mode that actually looks a lot better. I even measured my gamer avatar to check if it was a perfect square and it was.

      16:10 ftw tbh.

errr.... wait a sec. How do I select 1080i then? My projector supports up to 1080p, that's what it says on the tin anyway.

On the projector I had over Xmas it had a frequency selector in the menu where I could determine either 480p or 720p. Hence my curiosity yesterday.

like i said, the pj should auto switch unless you've got it set to something else... bang the menu button and flick through the options mate, set it to 'auto' afterwards and you'll be grand.

failing that ask someone over on avforums.com as there's a dedicated forum for the projectors.

just done a bit of reading thanks to the pdf on the optoma site...

'native' mode will display the source exactly as is, without any scaling. aside from that it appears you can't force the projector to display any resolution you want... which is odd.

Cheers mate, already knew about that. Yeah, I try 1280x720 on my Xbox with the projector set to native and I get an absolutely massive segment of the middle of the screen on my wall that isn't even widescreen, eventhough the xbox says it is. That's why I rang them up and got a load of bull**** from some random wide-boy.

It's all about the native man, that's what's making me fussy all of a sudden. I hate scaling.

LOLz, I'm sure even the most dedicated of AV freaks would ask me wtf I'm even bothered when it looks as good as it does.

All in all I need to be able to 'force' 1080i from the console somehow.
