    CPU Temperature

My laptop CPU is apparantly operating at 62C idle, and at over 90C when browsing using firefox! I read on another forum that it should be at around 30C idle and above 60C when at full load!!

Does anyone have any knowledge about such things, or/and on maybe what to do.
I can't afford to see it burn out with a short life...

    Maybe...

    Check your bios settings..
Check fan is working ( hot air should be blowing out )
Also try cleaning the fan grill , it's hard enough for cpu's to keep cool in laptops never mind with all the dust .

Sounds a bit dodgy mine never goes much over 40-50c, And I have a AMD (which is hotter than Intel I belive.)

I've cleaned the fans and grills, and both the fans seem to be working fine!?

I've had the laptop since november last year, yesterday I installed a computer monitoring program which displays temp etc..

I assume the laptop has always had high temperatures and only noticed since installing the monitor program.

Could it be possible that the heatsink isn't close enough to the CPU? If so does anyone have any knowledge of adjusting/replacing laptop heatsinks?

Most laptop heatsinks screw into place....but before playing with the heatsink i'd read up a bit to see if the problem lies elsewhere.

I used to work for a well known IT firm and we had a particular model that reported incorrect CPU and GPU heat.....simple Bios update fixed it.

It's actually pretty common in Sempron Laptops because the boards original bios's were designed for Duron's (yet still work with semprons)

Out of curiousity what laptop is it you've got?

Just had another read of your original post....have you looked to see what temperature your bios is registering it at? I really wouldn't trust Windows Based temperature programs

I've used two programs to check CPU temp, Notebook Advance Control and Speedfan, both report excessive readings.
I had a look in the Bios but there seems to be no temperature gauge (though I understand some bios show it).

                  The laptop I have is..

                  Rock XCT
                  Intel Pentium M 760 (2.0GHz)
