    Cheap XBOX Wireless Bridge

Wanting to get a cheap wireless bridge for the xbox to connect to my new fancy pants wireless network. Ideally G-type but if it's dirt cheap then B would suffice.

Any suggestions? Don't fancy forking out ?50!

I don't know if there are any "cheap" ones out there?

    I use this http://www.netgear.co.uk/home_wirele...et_bridges.php

I orginally went down the path of trying to use a cheap access point in 'bridge mode', but that was a dismal failure and the Xbox simply wouldn't recognise it.

Cheers. Anyone else any good experiences with kit, ideally at a bargain price?

Plug your Xbox directly into your wireless router and get a USB G for your PC, about ?15.

          Cheap 'b' bridge HERE

B grade with 30 day warranty but at ?15 worth a shot.

That's the one that I have.

Works perfectly with the Xbox. It even has a mention of an Xbox in the 'Clone MAC Address' setting.

Get that and you will have no problems.

Cheers all - the b protocol b grade looks like a steal at that price so may try it. How much "faster" would a g protocol product be?

For that price I'm actually thinking of buying one of those bridges just for when I have ethernet devices in here with no wireless. That one was originally released to be used with the Xbox so it doesn't surprise me that it works. Hell, it looks like an Xbox in a not-exactly-like-it-please-don't-sue-me way.

Then again I could just get a switch and split the cable that goes into my 360 with it.

Depends on what you want to do. If it's just for live then none at all. If your streaming stuff to XBMC then 'b' should be OK for divx/xvid and MP3 etc.
Even G is not fast enough to stream a DVD over the network and I wouldn't bother using it to transfer 'larger' files to the HD either, just stick a cable in on the odd occasion you need to.

                    b is 11MBit, g is 54MBit. There's 108 and 125MBit too.

b is fine for internet connections, I'd go for better for streaming anything other than SD DivX encodes.

Cheers smouty - went for this in the end as it should suit my needs.

Thanks for that. I've just ordered this:

                        clicky

Slightly, different requirements: I have a wired network (I hate wireless : generally crap performance, generally lower security) and have been using a USB dongle for DS connectivity (and the wife's MacBook).

It's cheaper (only 10 quid plus p+p) and I'm going to hook it into my ethernet switch and then my whole wired network is ready for wireless devices (yay! / boo!).

I have also owned the 900+ in the past and it can also be configured as a bridge/repeater/client/access point etc.
I used to use it in exactly the way you mentioned and it worked great.

What is the maximum speed one can get with the "b" ones? off the top of my head it should be ~1.4MB/s, is this correct?
