    Shipping goods from Japan?

Does anyone Know how I can ship some electronics I bought from Japan without getting over taxed. I bought some bits and pieces that although they did not cost me alot they are worth quite a bit in the uk. How do I declare stuff properly? I already have a shipping company but am not sure how to deal with customs.

    Thank you.

I don't have any experience with it myself, but when I import something from Japan or other countries I just ask if they will send it as a gift or put a lower price tag on the box. I haven't paid any customs yet.

If you have a courior you can use why don't you put on the Waybill

"items for review, to be returned within 28 days"

say that they are not being bought, just photographed and returned.

also prehaps put on the box goods repaired or second hand ? that might work to get through customs

I think 'engineering samples' or 'faulty hardware' will work for customs.

There are some docs on the UK customs site which tell you what is and isnt taxable.

Gahh! can't find the details again, really confusing looking at the site :-|

                A useful doc is here:

Find out about Customs Duty, excise duty and import VAT you may need to pay when you send gifts into the UK.

But can't find the one mentioning engineering samples :-|

My brother did it once when sending some old PC bits and some t-shirts to me from Japan. He wrote 'samples' on the label and it went through fine.
