Getting MIDI files on to a CD

Hi, I have some MIDI files on my computer that I want to put on a blank CD but the system wont let me.

Is there any way to change the file type so I can put them on a CD?

    Im using Windows media player.

I dont know much about these things.

    Please help!

if you're wanting to make an audio cd of them, i'd recommend using winamp. in the preferences, set the output to wav diskwriter then you will have them in .wav format and will be able to burn them to an audio cd

Thanks for the info. I downloaded winamp but cannot find the preferences folder you are talking about.

Just right click on the title bar and select Options > Preferences (or Ctrl+P). Then down the left side, under Plug-ins, highlight Output; now you should be able to select Nullsoft Disk Writer. This means that when you play the files in Winamp, it will create Wav files of them. Think the default output directory is just C:\

Thanks roddie. Ive found the option and selected nullsoft disc writer, then I played the midi file but it hasnt saved to the hard drive. Is there anything else I need to do to get it to create a new file?

hmm, i'd click the Configure button under the Disk Writer and check to see where the files are being saved. Mine is C:\ but maybe that's not the default

Actually I've just tried it with a MIDI file and it doesn't seem to be working, quite surprised about that since I've never had trouble with any of the weird file formats I've thrown at it.

Thanks Roddie. I think winamp has automatically changed all my midi files to winamp media files! I think this is why it didnt save the output file because if I chose a midi file, it will save to C:/. Will winamp media files copy to a CD o.k?

I'm actually not sure it has worked, when you played the file to record it was there sound coming out of the speakers?

Ok for it to work you'll need to goto Input under Plugins, then select Nullsoft MIDI player and Configure it.

At the first drop down menu (Device change it to the bottom option (DirectMusic / Microsoft Synthesizer (with output). Click OK, then make sure that you still have Disk Writer selected under Output.

You should be able to tell if it's worked or not because now when you play the file it should go along the progress bar but should be silent while it records. When the song comes to the end, locate the recorded file and to play it back in winamp, you'd need to change the output from Disk Writer to Direct Sound.

Your right it hasnt worked. it says that all my MIDI files are winamp media files but when I play them in windows media player they are still MIDI files.

Winamp will convert mp3 files to WAV, but I cant get it to change my MIDI files to WAV.
