Dirty disc errors on Xbox - Lens cleaner solution?

I've recently just brought a crystal Xbox from a shop with a 3 month warrenty and it's come up with dirty disc errors quite often. I've phoned up the shop and they reccomened a lens cleaner.

Does anyone have a good lens cleaner suggeston for the Xbox?

argos/maplin do them. dunno how much better a wet one would be, but i find the dry ones work ok.

    something like that.

basically it'll only help if the read errors are purely down to dust on the lens. have a look at the sides/back of the console to see how dusty it looks...

I would just return it if it's still under warranty. You should not have to settle for disk read errors.

Thanks very much Billy & Skull.

I've ordered a dry cleaner from the site you suggested and I gave the console a spray of compressed air but to no avail.

Sounds a tad scuzzy n' sleazy, I know, but I find one's own saliva does the trick.

Basically, you should get around three sheets of bog roll and crush/form them into a cone-type affair with a firmish, blunt-edged point.

Then, get a little saliva on the tip of the cone so it's pretty moist, position it over the XBox CD lens and do a thorough 'twist'/dab clean, then dry off (it dries off pretty much immediately anyway.)

Sorry if this sounds bad, but my PS2 has been working five years non-stop with this method, and my XBox has been going four years using the very same technique (both machines needing no other repairs etc.) There's often beauty in ugliness.

I can only speak for myself, however, so exercise due caution when tampering with your console's innards!

EDIT: To open the XBox, you'll probably need a budget screwdriver set that includes Torx tips - Poundstretcher do a good 22-piece job for around 3-4 quid which will do the job perfectly. If you need smaller screwdrivers to open the DVD drive cover, the local pound shop is worth a browse - they do some great cheapo sets that are invaluable for shifting those dinkier screws.
