well it's a personal preference thing isn't it?

i'm very fussy about emulators and i get annoyed when they're quoted as running games at 'playable' speeds which means bugger-all to me really, and is usually mentioned by people who are just bigging up the emu.

60fps with sound and not a frame under is what i go for. when i tried the md/snes emus earlier this year on psp, they were 60fps without sound, and about 30-40 with.

if you're passionate about it and just love the developments then that's fine, but i won't bother until an emu is at the stage where the speed is proper.

of course, what with the progress being made, the md/snes emus you speak of could already be running at 60fps with sound in which case my whole post was for nothing

That's absolutely fair Billy. If you're looking for absolute perfection (and why shouldn't you?) then you shouldn't accept anything less.

But the post I responded to said this - "they arent really that playable yet to be enjoyable." Not hitting precisely 60fps on every game, in my opinion, does not mean they can't be enjoyable. The Megadrive emulators, if not 60fps, often come pretty damn close. SNES emulators vary greatly depending on the game. Perfect? No, not at all. Enjoyable? Absolutely.

        fair enough.

what *really* gets my goat is how wonderful the neogeo cd emulation is

i guess that's just down to things like how easy it is to port, how good the original emu was, etc, but still!

It's something really obvious like 'neocd' or something. I can't remember exactly but Billy is right - it's stunning.

check out http://www.psphacking101.com they have a pretty good video tutorial of how to do it,if you searcher around you can get the 'helper' files but I've got a 1.5, so if you need the files just let me know and I'll send them on to you.

                bm

                *edit*

p.s, as far as I'm aware a lmost all Snes games on a 1.5 run at full 60 fps with no tweaking, certainly the ones I played. Chronotrigger is pretty much perfect, as long as you use the ME version of snes9xtyl

cool. i was considering getting a psp again as i can get a jap one for ?50 but i hate the dpad/buttons so much - the ps1/2 pad is saturn-like in comparison

i tried streets of rage 2 and after a few minutes my thumb was tired from holding directions for so long.

i remember seeing a post here about these pads being sold on ebay that you fit under the dpad/buttons to raise them a bit or something, but i can't find the thread anymore, nor the pads...

the ceramic white psp has a better dpad. anyone got that capcom one? what's that like?

Capcom one? The d-pad add-on you mean? I have it and it makes a massive difference. I won't lie to you and tell you it's perfect because it's still not but it's much better.

cheers alonzo for that that's the sort of thing i was talking about. looks a bit lame seeing it now, as i opened up a psp at work and tried raising the dpad but it won't go any higher - i'm assuming the ceramic dpad is physically different (the direction bits must be thicker).

still, it's a start, and i'm really glad a company like capcom actually did that dpad as it gives it some credibility.

i would've liked to finish my snes pad mod thing i did (sellotaping a snes dpad on top of the psp one. it worked a treat but would fall off often, didn't bother trying things like blu-tak, etc), but i've given up on that!
