American Nintendo 64 and Perfect Dark

As the A level exams are coming to an end and my real job soon coming round the corner (Well in September ) my gaming collection in single player and furious multi-player is getting a serious workout.

My game of choice is Perfect dark and the slowdown and frame rate is beggining to grate a little. So for the 1st time im considering importing a peice of hardware, and it's quite and daunting. I import all the time (thanks to the DC, PSone and GameCube disks and the GBA's multi-region compatability) but apart from the wonderswan i've never imported a console.

I've read up on the NTSC-UK feature about importing so im not clueless but I have a few questions:

Is perfect dark, GoldenEye and Mario considerablly better on American machines?
Is the rumble pack and memory pak compatable with American hardware?
Are there still a company, shop or person who still "mods" PAL N64's to become multi-region?

All peripherals are mutli region.

To my knowledge you cant mod a PAL n64. You can only mod a US machine to play JPN games and vicer versa.

I'm about to try the US versions of PD and GE. I'll tell you tomorrowish if they are any better than the pal versions. 1080 was instantly better. PD will probably still be a bit jerky cos it was over-ambitious.

The only differences bewteen Jap and US are the cartridge shapes.
THey have a different "key"

You can indeed mod a uk n64 as you can see from these instructions,I have done one now and can tell you it is a very very complicated mod,and only for the experts.Still you need parts from both a us and uk machine to get it to work anyway.Also if you run the us perfect dark on pal hardware,yo will not notice any difference,it is the hardware which makes it run that bit faster,also the game does suffer from slowdown and stuff and the pal localisation was pretty good,it is not that big an upgrade for that game running it on an ntsc machine but other games run significantly faster.
