Messenger View Problem - Advice/Help Requested

Since installing Windows Live Messenger, I can only use the view with File Contacts Actions Tools Help across the top, and not the more streamlined version. Any ideas on how to remedy this situation?

Yeah, I see the one you mean, in the second jpeg, but in the first one I haven't got that. I've got this running on two machines, the one with the black background has got the problem. One the 'good' machine, I can switch between that view and the view with the menu easily. See attachment. But I can't do that on the 'bad' machine. See what I mean?
